The Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas, A.C. (CIMAT) is pleased to invite you to the Workshop on Algebraic Geometry in Phase Retrieval and Quantum State Tomography, which will take place at CIMAT, Guanajuato, Gto, Mexico, from October 22 to 26, 2018.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and students in frame theory and algebraic geometry in order to make progress on open problems at the intersection of the two fields. Two particular areas in which both fields intersect are phase retrieval and quantum state tomography, and we believe that interaction between researchers in frame theory with those in real and complex geometry, algebraic geometry and algebraic topology holds promise for a number of outstanding problems in these areas.

Particular topics to be discussed in the workshop include:

  • Characterization of frames which allow phase retrieval from magnitudes of frame coefficients
  • Existence of complex equiangular line sets and equiangular tight frames as affine algebraic varieties
  • Existence of equi-distant and equi-isoclinic subspaces and fusion frames
  • Quantum state tomography
  • Applications to fibre-optic and wireless communications

Four mini-courses will be accessible for advanced graduate students and will be given by:

Dan Edidin, University of Missouri
Bernhard Bodmann, University of Houston
Thomas Strohmer, University of California, Davis
David Gross, University of Sydney, Australia and University of Cologne, Germany

Support for accommodation is available for a limited number of participants upon request. You may request accommodation on the registration page here.
